Succession and Transfer
Family run companies in which the next generation already holds responsibility and the transfer of shares is due.
Where a son or daughter already represents the company alongside the founding generation, the change of generation has begun. In these businesses the question is seldom whether, and usually how: gift or inheritance, timing, valuation, structuring of the shareholding.
The pending reform of the tax relief for business assets lends this question an urgency that many families recognise late. Anyone who transfers today does so under conditions that may no longer apply tomorrow. Every gift of shares also requires a robust business valuation.
