The findings of our reports in brief: what is changing in Germany's corporations, in figures we calculate ourselves on the complete population.
One in five new incorporations in Germany is now a holding company. In the strongholds near Munich and Berlin, management usually lives elsewhere.
IncorporationsDefence, drones and battery storage are also experiencing waves of incorporation. For crypto assets and cannabis, a large part of the new companies is already out of business.
EnergyFor the control technology of solar installations, the share is about fifty times the average. The battery storage trade is also more than one fifth managed from China, while grids and supply are managed almost exclusively from Germany.
EconomySince the start of the war, hardly any companies with management in Russia have been formed. Half of the companies managed from Turkey, by contrast, were only incorporated since February 2022.
InsolvenciesHospitality carries the highest rate, entrepreneurial companies record the sharpest increase. Companies with registered power of attorney and a management of several people are affected far less often.
HealthcareOne in six medical care centres is contractually bound to a parent company. Inpatient care experienced its wave of insolvencies in 2023, hospitals have recorded more cases since the beginning of 2026.
Real estateThe insolvency rate of property developers has more than tripled since 2021. Property management firms are growing against the trend.
EnergyThe incorporation wave of 2022 and 2023 is followed by a shake out. Operators of solar installations remain stable, installation and trade come under pressure.
SuccessionIn one in ten German corporations, the entire management is aged 65 or over. Almost none of these companies has a successor within the business.
